The Morning Before the SC-900: Where My Head Is Right Now
Tomorrow, September 20th, I sit the SC-900. This morning I'm just sitting with that.
I keep noticing how different this feels from the last time I was here. My first ISC2 CC exam ended in an anomaly — ninety questions and a hard stop, then weeks of formal inquiry to earn a retake. So "the day before an exam" isn't a neutral phrase for me anymore. It carries something. The last time I trusted a testing room, it didn't go the way it should have.
Almost everything about tomorrow is different, and I've been leaning on that.
Different format — this is my first online-proctored exam, taken from my own space, on a machine I've already tested down to the microphone check. Different content — Microsoft's stack instead of vendor-neutral fundamentals, and different headspace, which is the part that actually matters.
This time I did the work out loud.
I posted the 40% cold baseline. I admitted the week I stalled. I mapped every domain, named my weak spots by their real names, and drilled the ones that scared me until they didn't. I didn't perform readiness — I built it, in public, where I couldn't quietly fudge it.
Somewhere along the way, the number crossed the line it needed to cross.
I'm not walking in expecting perfection. There are still things that make me slow down and double-check myself, and a couple of the identity distinctions are the kind of thing I'll want to read twice. I'm walking in honest — I know exactly where I'm strong and exactly where I'm shaky, and there's a strange calm in that.
You can't be blindsided by a gap you already named.
The thing I keep coming back to is that the exam isn't really the point. It's a checkpoint on a longer road — storm to SOC, one honest step at a time.
Pass or lesson, I'll tell you the real number on the other side, same as I've told you every number along the way. That's the whole deal I made with this blog: no tidy fictions.
So this morning the practice tabs stay closed. Maybe one light pass over the confusable pairs sometime today, nothing heavy — the cramming's done.
Tomorrow I'll set up my space, breathe, read the questions carefully, and trust the work I've already done.
See you on the other side of September 20th.
Storm to SOC — read the map, then move. 💜
